Elistair’s Innovative Use of Tethered Drones in Emergency Response
Elistair has unveiled a compelling case study demonstrating the effectiveness of its Ligh-T tethered unmanned aerial system (UAS) power station in delivering continuous aerial surveillance and situational awareness during a simulated refinery fire at Hellenic Petroleum facilities in greece.
For an in-depth look, you can download the complete case study here.
Incident overview
the exercise simulated a fire ignited by a tractor colliding with a pipeline junction that connects two Hellenic Petroleum refineries along with two additional oil and gas entities. Hellenic drones SA, a provider of UAS services, deployed a DJI Inspire 1 drone tethered too Elistair’s Ligh-T station. This setup enabled seamless coordination among the National Fire Brigade, police, and ambulance services.
Rapid deployment and Real-Time data
The entire system was operational within just 8 minutes, providing live-streaming footage from up to 3 kilometers away from the incident. This real-time data was relayed directly to a control room, empowering the fire department’s leadership to make swift, informed decisions based on the live feed.
Enhanced Drone Performance
The Ligh-T power station ensured uninterrupted power supply to the drone, substantially extending its operational duration. in the event of a power failure,a backup battery allowed the drone to remain airborne. Full HD imagery was transmitted directly from the pilot’s mobile device to the control center located 1 kilometer away.
