Introducing the SF30: A Revolutionary Hybrid VTOL UAS
Shadowfax UAS is set to showcase its innovative hybrid VTOL unmanned aerial system, the SF30, at the upcoming 2024 Africa Aerospace and Defense (AAD) Expo, taking place from September 18 to 22 at Air Force Base Waterkloof, Pretoria, South Africa.
Designed for Versatility and Efficiency
The SF30 is an ITAR-free platform meticulously crafted to deliver extended endurance and adaptable aerial ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) capabilities. This system is tailored for a wide range of civilian uses as well as Group 3 defence applications. A primary focus for Shadowfax UAS and its potential customers was to create a budget-amiable solution that minimizes operational costs per hour of active service.
Advanced Propulsion and Modular Design
This UAS achieves remarkable efficiency through a propulsion system that incorporates a four-stroke internal combustion engine, which can be equipped with optional electronic fuel injection. The modular design allows for quick field replacements, enabling rapid mission restarts with minimal downtime, thus enhancing the platform’s availability and operational use. The aircraft’s aerodynamic design is complemented by advanced position-locking motors that reduce drag during flight, facilitating mission durations of over 10 hours and operational ranges exceeding 800 kilometers.
Payload Capacity and Versatile Equipment Options
The SF30 boasts a generous 40-liter modular payload bay, capable of accommodating payloads up to 7 kg. Users can choose from a variety of sensors and equipment, including EO/IR gimbals, synthetic aperture radar, precision agriculture sensors, and laser designators. Communication options are extensive, featuring SATCOM, cellular data links, and encrypted MIMO radios. Additionally,Shadowfax’s innovative Gravi-shift system allows for the installation of large,asymmetrically-mounted payloads without compromising flight performance.
Autonomous Operations and Quick Setup
This robust UAV is designed for autonomous take-off and landing, with BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) capabilities, allowing it to operate effectively day or night, even in adverse weather conditions. It requires minimal logistical support and can be assembled in just half an hour.
