Teal Drones Collaborates with Doodle Labs for Army’s SRR Program
Teal Drones, a subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, has announced a strategic partnership with Doodle Labs to develop a small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) prototype for the U.S. Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance (SRR) initiative.
Competitive Landscape of the SRR Program
Teal is among just three contenders vying for the SRR Tranche 2 contract, which the Army has indicated will be the concluding phase of the SRR program. The selected vendor(s) will be tasked with creating a portable sUAS that can be easily carried in a rucksack, enabling platoons to conduct swift reconnaissance missions.
Advanced Dialog Capabilities
By incorporating Doodle Labs’ Helix Mesh Rider Radio, Teal’s SRR prototype will be equipped to transmit thermal images, AES-256 encrypted video, and other high-bandwidth data to a ground station located over three miles away. This radio employs FIPS 140-3 certified encryption, ensuring the security of both data and flight control, even in challenging environments.
Commitment to Excellence
“Teal is optimistic about developing an sUAS prototype that will not only meet but surpass the Army’s expectations for the SRR program,” stated george Matus, Founder and CEO of Teal. “Our approach involves collaborating with top-tier technology partners, and Doodle Labs stands out as a leader in wireless networking solutions.”
Previous Collaborations and Certifications
Teal has also partnered with Teledyne FLIR and Immervision for its SRR project. Both Teal and Doodle Labs hold blue UAS certification, which allows them to supply equipment to the U.S. military. The Helix Mesh Rider Radio was developed with support from the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Showcasing Innovation
“We are thrilled to see our technology integrated into Teal’s SRR prototype and possibly other platforms,” remarked Ashish parikh, Vice President of Business Development at Doodle Labs. “The SRR program presents an excellent possibility to demonstrate how our wireless networking solutions can safeguard and transmit critical data for warfighters.”
Technical Specifications
The Helix mesh Rider Radio utilizes Doodle Labs’ proprietary multi-band technology, covering a spectrum of licensed frequencies from M1 to M6 (1.6 GHz to 2.5 ghz) within a single radio unit. Its compact OEM design is optimized for low size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements.
upcoming Industry Events
Teal and Doodle Labs will showcase their innovations at two major industry events from May 8-11. These include XPONENTIAL in Denver, Colorado (Booth 4416) and SOF Week in Tampa, Florida (Booth 1016).
During XPONENTIAL, George matus from Teal will participate in a panel discussion hosted by Doodle Labs on May 10 at 3 p.m. MDT, titled “How Collaboration Sparks Innovation in DIU’s Blue UAS Program.”
