### Innovative Integration of Drone Technologies
doodle Labs and ModalAI have unveiled a groundbreaking collaboration that integrates Doodle Labs’ nano-OEM and mini-OEM Smart Radios with ModalAI’s VOXL 2 autopilot system. This partnership is designed to enable drone manufacturers to create advanced drone systems that feature a robust and dependable data link.
### Enhancing Drone Capabilities
both doodle labs’ Helix Smart Radios and ModalAI’s VOXL 2 are included in the Blue UAS Framework, which has received full authorization for use by the U.S. government.
Nimesh Parikh,CEO and Founder of Doodle Labs, stated,“Our radios provide exceptional range and high data throughput, ensuring a reliable connection. modalai is dedicated to innovating autopilots for smaller, smarter, and safer drones. the synergy with the Blue UAS Framework makes this partnership a meaningful advancement, and we are excited to support it. We believe this integration will revolutionize the market for many drone OEMs, allowing them to launch their best products more swiftly.”
Chad Sweet,CEO and Co-Founder of ModalAI,added,“As a manufacturer within the Blue UAS Framework, our goal is to propel the U.S. drone sector forward with cutting-edge, interoperable technology that expedites the journey toward autonomy. We are thrilled to partner with Doodle Labs to integrate their Smart Radios with VOXL 2. Developers utilizing both technologies can expect a faster route to market and compliance with FY20 NDAA Section 848.”
### Government-Sponsored Development
The creation of Doodle Labs’ Helix Smart Radio was backed by the Department of Defense’s Defense innovation Unit, specifically for the Blue UAS initiative. According to Doodle Labs, the Helix Smart Radio is the sole device that fulfills all requirements of the Blue UAS Framework within a single unit. It offers the tactical adaptability of six frequency bands (M1-M6) in one radio, allowing users to switch bands based on interference or operational needs without changing hardware. Additionally, Helix Smart Radios are fully compliant with NDAA regulations.
### Versatile Form Factors
Helix Smart Radios come in two compact designs: the mini-OEM and the even smaller nano-OEM, both engineered for low size, weight, and power (SWaP) while ensuring long-range communication and high data throughput tailored for drone applications. Besides the Blue UAS-compliant helix versions, both Smart Radios are also available in unlicensed 2.4 GHz variants for commercial drone operations.
### Advanced autopilot Features
ModalAI’s VOXL 2 autopilot, powered by the Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G platform, weighs just 16 grams and is touted to possess more AI processing capabilities than any other autopilot on the market. It combines a PX4 real-time flight controller with an 8-core CPU capable of delivering up to 15 TOPs, along with seven image sensors, TDK IMUs, a barometer, and 5G connectivity, all assembled in the USA. This innovative computing platform accelerates the development of commercial drone and robotic solutions, unlocking the potential of autonomous AI and 5G technology.
### Enabling Autonomous Operations
VOXL 2 facilitates autonomy and communication for both indoor and outdoor drones and robots, utilizing vision-based SLAM and AI for navigation, specifically designed for GPS-denied environments. With the addition of a 5G module, VOXL 2 enhances critical navigation capabilities, including Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, promoting safer and more reliable flights.
