Elsight Supercharges Skydio Drone with Cutting-Edge Connectivity for Defense Missions

Elsight partners with Skydio to enhance the X10D drone’s capabilities, providing critical BVLOS connectivity for defense missions with seamless, reliable communication solutions

Elsight, a frontrunner in cutting-edge connectivity solutions, has joined forces with Skydio to enhance the capabilities of autonomous drone technology tailored for defense and governmental use.

As Skydio advances its innovative X10D drone, Elsight’s halo connectivity solution is crucial in broadening the drone’s functionality for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations.

This collaboration highlights the increasing necessity for dependable, high-performance dialog systems in essential ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) missions and other rigorous defense tasks.

The Skydio X10D, renowned for its autonomous flight capabilities, provides unparalleled versatility for mission-critical scenarios. With the integration of Elsight Halo, the X10D is adept at managing remote and intricate assignments, ensuring consistent connectivity even in the most challenging conditions. The Halo’s capacity to aggregate various cellular modems guarantees a stable connection, merging cellular, radio, and satellite signals to uphold continuous and secure communication—crucial for tactical operations in both hostile and GPS-denied environments.

Launched into full-rate production last year, the Skydio X10D platform boasts a modular architecture that accommodates a variety of mission-specific attachments. These include elegant sensors, payloads, and other specialized tools, enabling defense and government clients to tailor the drone’s capabilities. With four payload attachment bays providing up to 50 watts of power each, the X10D is versatile enough for diverse applications, ranging from reconnaissance to electronic warfare.

Elsight’s Halo is instrumental in facilitating real-time data transmission for critical missions, offering BVLOS capabilities for drones, UAVs, and other unmanned systems. By merging Skydio’s advanced autonomous navigation with Elsight’s robust connectivity, the X10D can operate effectively over extended distances, allowing operators to maintain extensive control and situational awareness.

Yoav Amitai, CEO of Elsight, remarked, “Our battlefield-tested Halo for BVLOS connectivity empowers military operations to sustain communications in areas with limited infrastructure, mitigate interference and jamming, and remotely control the system from any location globally. We are thrilled to contribute to Skydio’s expansive, modular, open platform of the X10D. We anticipate enhancing our robust and innovative BVLOS capabilities for numerous U.S. defense applications and exercises.”

Skydio’s partnership with Elsight, along with other industry leaders such as L3Harris Technologies, ensures that the X10D drone remains at the cutting edge of military and defense advancements. As both companies continue to enhance their technologies, they are establishing a new benchmark for autonomous, secure, and adaptable drone operations that cater to the evolving demands of defense and government agencies.
