Embention has received APDOA (Alternative Procedures to Design Organization Approval) certification by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), advancing the standardization and technological maturity of autonomous flights.
This recognition has authorized Embention to design certified aeronautical components under the ETSO (European Technical Standard Order) standards, meeting top technical requirements in civil aviation with aviation-grade systems previously reserved for manned aircraft.
The approval covers the ETSO-C198 standard, concerning the design of the AFGCS (Automatic Flight Guidance and Control System) and applying to critical systems used in manned aviation.
This APDOA designation means Embention is authorized to develop products meeting high airworthiness requirements outlined in Part 21 of Regulation (EU) 748/2012, the key regulatory framework in Europe for aviation safety and certification.
Embention therefore claims to be the first company, specializing in drone autopilots under EASA oversight, to obtain ETSO authorizations for autopilot systems (ETSO-C198).
Embention’s APDOA approval has also been granted simultaneously with POA (Production Organization Approval) certification from the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency (AESA). This dual certification enables Embention to design and manufacture its certified autopilots entirely in-house, without relying on third parties.
The combination of approvals ensures complete control from design to production, enhancing product quality, reliability, and traceability. This level of technical and production autonomy also positions Embention as a benchmark in the development of certified critical systems for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and manned eVTOLs.
The APDOA and POA certifications emphasize Embention’s commitment to safety and innovation, solidifying its leadership in the development of critical systems for unmanned and manned vehicles.
The company is now actively working to obtain ETSO certification for its Veronte Autopilot system, a decisive move toward its integration as a certified critical system.
Embention’s achievements have strengthened its position as a technology innovator and set a precedent for the drone sector, applying manned aviation standards to drone component design and shifting towards safer, standardized drone futures.
