EMCORE Corporation secures $1.1 Million Contract for advanced Inertial Measurement Unit Growth
In a meaningful development, a prominent U.S.prime contractor has entrusted EMCORE Corporation with a $1.1 million contract aimed at designing and producing a refined Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) tailored for tactical intelligence and reconnaissance applications.
Progressing from Prototype to Production
EMCORE,recognized for its cutting-edge mixed-signal solutions catering to the aerospace, defense, and broadband communications sectors, has successfully navigated the prototype stage. As part of this ongoing contract, the company will now focus on delivering initial production units, which will serve as a benchmark for manufacturing validation and system-level qualification.
Innovative Technology at the Core
This specialized IMU will leverage EMCORE’s unique closed-loop Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) technology, which is known for its superior CSWaP (Cost, Size, Weight, and Power) characteristics and performance benefits compared to traditional FOGs and rival technologies. The new IMU is engineered to achieve extraordinary performance levels, surpassing EMCORE’s existing EN-300 model. Notably, EMCORE’s FOG IMU technology boasts ten times the bias performance of older systems while maintaining a compact and compatible design.
Leadership Insights on the Project
David Hoyh, EMCORE’s Director of Sales & Marketing for navigation products, expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, “EMCORE has showcased its capability to swiftly transition from design validation to manufacturing proof for this intricate, strategic IMU, supporting a U.S. Government client’s critical milestone. We are thrilled to be chosen for this initiative to create a high-performance IMU for such demanding applications.”
Strategic importance of the Contract
Jeffrey Rittichier, President and CEO of EMCORE, remarked on the significance of this agreement, saying, “This partnership with one of our key clients marks another vital achievement for our Navigation division. It highlights the effectiveness of our Mixed-Signal products and our commitment to Transforming Navigation, allowing us to tailor our offerings to meet specific customer needs. We are honored to be selected for this project,” he added.
