Enhanced Maritime surveillance in the Gulf of Genova
Tekever, a leader in drone-based maritime surveillance, is set to launch a new initiative over the Gulf of Genova, collaborating with the italian Coast Guard under its ongoing agreement with the European Maritime safety agency (EMSA) to deliver Remotely Piloted Aerial System (RPAS) services.
Continuing the Legacy of Maritime Safety
Building on the success of last yearS operations, EMSA aims to further bolster maritime safety and security in the region while also aiding in search and rescue efforts. This initiative underscores the commitment to enhancing the safety of maritime activities.
environmental Protection Initiatives
Another critical focus of this operation is the safeguarding of marine ecosystems. The flights will play a vital role in monitoring whale migration patterns within the Pelagos Sanctuary, a designated area for the protection of marine mammals.
Integration with coast Guard Operations
This versatile operation is designed to assist the Italian Coast Guard in seamlessly incorporating these advanced services into their routine procedures, thereby improving situational awareness. The drone flights can be monitored remotely from four strategic locations: the Sarzana base, as well as Imperia, Genova, and Rome.
Advanced Technology in Use
The AR-5 evo unmanned fixed-wing aircraft, contracted to EMSA thru the REACT consortium—which includes CLS (specializing in maritime analytics) and Tekever—will be utilized for these missions. This UAV is equipped with a range of refined features, including optical and infrared cameras, maritime radar,an AIS receiver, and an emergency position-indicating radio beacon antenna. Its satellite dialogue capabilities enable operations both day and night.
Free RPAS Services for EU Member States
EMSA provides RPAS services at no cost to all EU member nations. These services are designed to support maritime surveillance and monitor ship emissions, functioning effectively across all seas surrounding the European Union. RPAS can enhance traditional coast guard operations, including search and rescue missions and pollution prevention efforts. Member states can access these services individually or as part of EMSA’s regional RPAS strategy, which facilitates support for multiple coast guard functions across various EU nations.
