Enhanced Tow Camera System for Subsea Surveys and Research

The hardware and software upgrades made to SubC Imaging’s Tow Camera System aim to improve operational efficiency and meet the demands of underwater surveys and research

Enhanced Tow Camera System for Underwater Exploration and Research

SubC Imaging has launched an upgraded version of its Tow Camera System, featuring significant enhancements in both hardware and software to address the evolving needs of underwater exploration and research.

This latest iteration builds on the successful foundation of its predecessor, integrating advanced functionalities aimed at boosting operational efficiency, enhancing data quality, and improving user interaction.

the revamped Tow camera System includes several hardware advancements that facilitate the capture of more accurate and detailed underwater imagery. With new adjustable LEDs, lasers, and camera settings, users can customize illumination, measurement, and capture parameters, tailoring the system to their specific requirements.

These upgrades guarantee exceptional footage quality and precision, making the system well-suited for seafloor mapping, marine life studies, and infrastructure assessments.

Safety features have also been improved, enhancing the system’s reliability in challenging underwater environments.User-friendly modifications have been implemented to streamline adjustments in the field, ensuring that the Tow Camera System is straightforward to deploy and operate.

Now powered by Rayfin Single Channel Inspection Software, the Tow Camera System allows for real-time media and data transfer. Users can access and record data instantly from the surface, eliminating the need for post-mission downloads and considerably reducing processing time.

Automated association and embedded metadata facilitate the retrieval and analysis of images, videos, and sensor data. Additionally, new features like Rapid Digital Imaging (RDI) enable high-resolution still image capture and LED strobing at rates of up to 2Hz.

The software enhancements include:

  • Instant Data Transfer: Offers immediate access to media and data without delays.
  • High-Definition live Viewing and Capture: Streams HD and 4K video while simultaneously capturing 12MP still images, ensuring exceptional detail.
  • Integrated DVR with Overlays,Annotations, and Voiceover: Record videos with overlays, annotations, and voiceovers, enhancing documentation and facilitating detailed analysis and sharing of findings.
  • Complete Data Management: Automatically logs data with embedded timestamps, sensor details, and other essential metadata, improving the traceability and integrity of collected information.
  • Unified Control and Visualization: The system provides integrated control over the camera, LEDs, and lasers – all accessible from a single interface.

Advancing Underwater Technology

The enhanced Tow Camera System is capable of operating at depths of up to 380 meters.Designed for the most demanding underwater conditions, its robust stainless steel and epoxy-coated aluminum frame ensures durability, while its neutral buoyancy design guarantees optimal stability during towing operations.

Notable Improvements

Enhanced Deployment & Setup: The pre-assembled, field-adjustable design simplifies setup, reduces downtime, and incorporates additional safety features for secure and efficient operation.

  • Optimized Camera, LED, and Laser adjustability: Easier control over camera positioning, lighting, and measurement for superior footage quality and accuracy, even in challenging conditions.
  • advanced Rapid Digital Imaging (RDI): Captures high-resolution still images with LED strobing at speeds up to 2Hz, enabling clearer, more detailed imaging in dynamic environments.
  • Instant Data Access & Transfer: Continuous real-time HD and 4K video with simultaneous 12.3MP digital stills, along with topside recording.Enhance your findings with the DVR+ Overlay.
  • Streamlined Workflow: Automated data logging of timestamps, NMEA, EXIF data, and sensor information for quicker post-survey analysis.

Chad Collett, CEO of SubC Imaging, stated, “The latest iteration of our Tow Camera System establishes a new benchmark in underwater imaging. We’ve integrated feedback from our users and expanded the possibilities in data acquisition, usability, and imaging quality.

“This system will enable research and inspection professionals to capture the highest-quality visual data in real-time, significantly enhancing the efficiency of their operations.”
