sunhillo has rolled out an upgraded version of it’s Surveillance Monitoring System (SMS), enhancing a platform recently implemented at the US Army alaska (USARAK) Ranges. This upgrade aims to bolster situational awareness and support training exercises. Notable improvements include a dynamic map feature that tracks a specific UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), ensuring the view remains centered as the aircraft moves.Additionally, it offers customizable concentric geofence filters that provide both visual and audible alerts for incoming aircraft, enhancing safety and situational awareness.
The SMS integrates various surveillance inputs, including conventional radar and ADS-B,presenting them on a customizable map interface. A key advantage of the SMS is its offline functionality; it does not require an internet connection, making it essential for remote UAS operations. Users can enhance the map’s detail with custom overlays, such as aeronautical charts,ArcGIS imagery, and othre georeferenced data.
With its fully adaptable display and geofencing capabilities, the SMS equips users with the situational awareness necessary for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations and controlled airspace UAS activities. By selecting any target on the SMS, users can access critical details, including target ID, aircraft identification, and precise latitude/longitude coordinates.
The geofencing feature of the SMS is established by creating a polygonal fence using latitude/longitude coordinates, drawing directly on the map, or importing shape files. Alerts can be configured to trigger when targets approach or enter the designated geofenced area. This update enhances geofencing by tracking the designated UAV as it moves across the map, providing UAS pilots and operational centers with a concentrated area for situational awareness, notably beneficial for BVLOS operations.
Dave Whitman, the CEO and President of Sunhillo Corporation, stated: “The latest iteration of SMS builds on our previously successful surveillance systems, introducing new features for UAS operations and geofencing that will enhance the situational awareness necessary for safe operations.”
