Groundbreaking Battery Production Facility for Drone Innovations
Packet Digital, a leader in power management solutions for autonomous technologies, has announced the establishment of North Dakota’s inaugural battery cell manufacturing plant in Fargo, just months after launching its battery assembly operation.
The company specializes in advanced batteries, chargers, battery management systems, and fleet management solutions, all designed to enhance the performance of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) by extending flight durations and increasing payload capacities while ensuring dependable operation over extended lifespans.
Expanding Manufacturing Capabilities in Fargo
This new facility marks the third location in Fargo for Packet Digital, dedicated to the production of high-performance batteries tailored for drone applications. The initiative aligns with the U.S. government’s push for increased domestic battery cell production, positioning packet Digital to meet this demand effectively.
Partnership with the Clean Sustainable Energy Authority
In a recent collaboration, the Clean Sustainable Energy Authority (CSEA), part of North Dakota’s Industrial Commission, has joined forces with Packet Digital to facilitate battery cell manufacturing in the state. This partnership has resulted in a substantial investment of $17.4 million aimed at fostering technological advancements that promote sustainable energy production.
The Pentagon’s replicator Initiative
Packet Digital has highlighted the importance of the Pentagon’s Replicator program, which aims to swiftly produce and deploy thousands of autonomous weapon systems within a two-year timeframe. A key objective of this initiative is to diminish the U.S. military’s dependence on foreign suppliers for autonomous systems. By establishing battery cell manufacturing in North Dakota,Packet Digital aims to mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities and reduce reliance on potentially adversarial nations.
Commitment to Domestic Production
With plans for the new battery cell plant, Packet Digital is poised to enhance the U.S. position in the drone battery manufacturing sector. The company emphasizes its proven track record in delivering high-power, efficient, and safe power solutions, making it an ideal candidate for domestic battery cell production.
Packet Digital aims to commence battery cell manufacturing for clients by the end of 2025, with full operational capacity expected by 2028.
CEO Insights on the Future
Terri zimmerman, CEO of Packet Digital, stated, “For years, Packet digital has been a trusted name in the drone battery sector. we appreciate the support from CSEA and North Dakota, which has been crucial in expanding our manufacturing presence in the state. Launching North Dakota’s first battery cell facility will generate high-paying jobs in Fargo, contributing to one of the fastest-growing markets globally.”
“Recent military conflicts have underscored the evolving dynamics of modern warfare, with drones playing an increasingly vital role. The Department of Defense has recognized this shift and is urging U.S.manufacturers to boost domestic production of essential components. The high-energy density cells we will produce in Fargo are critical for U.S. defense and national security.”
