Hargrave Technologies has unveiled Version 2.0 of its firmware for UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) motor controllers, utilizing the GateKEEPER platform to implement this update across its entire product lineup.

This latest firmware update introduces several enhanced features, including:
Enhanced Speed Control and Governor Mode
The newly introduced drive mode allows the motor to maintain a specified mechanical speed, with throttle percentages adjusting this target linearly between the minimum and maximum RPM settings. This feature is particularly beneficial for applications requiring consistent speeds, such as unmanned helicopters or variable-pitch propellers. The RPM mode can be customized with the following parameters:
- Maximum RPM: The upper limit for RPM in the RPM drive mode.
- Minimum RPM: The lower limit for RPM in the RPM drive mode.
- Soft Start Ramp Time: The gradual increase in speed when starting the motor, typically used in geared configurations.
DroneCAN Support for Hargrave Configurator
The Hargrave Configurator tool now supports adjustments and preset applications via DroneCAN devices (such as CubeOrange), simplifying the customization of electronic speed controllers (ESCs) while they are mounted in the vehicle.
Variable Bitrate Support for DroneCAN
Users can now select from a range of CAN bitrates, allowing for compatibility with various systems that may operate at different speeds than the microDRIVE LP’s default of 1Mbps. The available bitrates include: 1Mbps, 800Kbps, 500Kbps, 250Kbps, and 125Kbps.
Refined Propeller Parking Features
The propeller parking strength setting has been divided into two distinct parameters:
- Propeller turning Strength
- Propeller Stopping Strength
This division allows for more precise tuning of settings, enhancing control across the entire system. Additionally, the parking speed is now represented as a mechanical RPM value, making it easier to manage in practical applications.
