Textron Systems Secures Major Contract for shadow UAS Upgrade
Textron systems has recently been awarded a notable contract by the U.S. Army to enhance the shadow block II tactical unmanned aerial system (UAS) to the advanced Block III version. This contract comes on the heels of a triumphant Follow-on Operational Test adn Evaluation (FOT&E) of the Block III configuration, which demonstrated its capabilities effectively. The agreement also encompasses logistics support, field services, and engineering assistance.
Modernization Efforts for Enhanced Operational Readiness
The initiative aims to modernize the existing Shadow RQ-7B Block II, focusing on product support and sustainment for the entire fleet. This upgrade will ensure that maintenance is streamlined and that necessary repairs and spare parts are readily available, thereby maintaining critical mission readiness for deployed systems. The project is set to commence immediately and will unfold over a five-year timeline.
Innovative Features of the shadow Block III System
The Shadow Block III system builds upon the established success of its predecessors, integrating design enhancements that facilitate operations in challenging weather conditions. Key upgrades include a cutting-edge high-definition video payload for both day and night use, improved engine power and reliability, a quieter operational profile, and an advanced communications relay system.
Proven Performance in Global Operations
with a remarkable history of over 1.25 million flight hours, the Shadow UAS has demonstrated its effectiveness in various missions worldwide, solidifying its reputation as a reliable asset.
