Expanding Modular Maritime Autonomy with TSUNAMI USV Line

Textron Systems is expanding its uncrewed surface vessel (USV) capabilities with the introduction of the TSUNAMI™ family — a new series of scalable, modular platforms designed to meet the growing demands of autonomous maritime operations.

Building on over 40 years of autonomous systems development, and leveraging operational insights from its proven Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV®), the company is aiming to provide multi-mission maritime platforms that offer rapid deployment, system interoperability, and operational flexibility.

The TSUNAMI series builds directly on the autonomy control systems first fielded in CUSV. It incorporates open architecture design principles and integrates with high-performance vessels from Brunswick Corporation. This approach enables Textron Systems to offer customizable, scalable solutions that can be adapted to a wide range of mission profiles including ISR, mine countermeasures, logistics support, and force protection.

Modular payload bays and software-configurable systems allow operators to tailor each platform to evolving mission sets without altering the vessel’s core architecture.

At the core of the TSUNAMI family are three defining attributes:

  • Scalability: TSUNAMI platforms can be produced and configured rapidly, enabling users to adapt platform specifications to operational requirements and deployment timelines.
  • Interoperability: An open systems architecture allows seamless integration with existing naval infrastructure and a variety of payload types, supporting both current and future mission objectives.
  • Mission Flexibility: The vessels support autonomous execution of multi-role operations, from persistent surveillance to littoral logistics, with minimal crew support.

Textron Systems’ emphasis on autonomous integration extends beyond the platform itself. Its experience in sensor fusion, autonomous navigation, and resilient communications supports distributed operations in contested maritime environments.

The company continues to focus on developing USVs that function as force multipliers, reducing the risk to manned assets and enhancing situational awareness across naval task groups.

As naval forces pursue increased autonomy and force distribution, scalable uncrewed platforms are becoming central to operational planning. Textron Systems’ TSUNAMI USV line positions the company to support this shift with modular platforms capable of evolving in step with mission demands.

With sustained investment in autonomy and a clear focus on integration, Textron Systems is advancing the state of uncrewed maritime capability and reinforcing its position as a key enabler of next-generation naval operations.
