FarSounder Partners with GMATEK for Innovative Naval Research
FarSounder has been chosen as a key subcontractor for a groundbreaking research and progress initiative spearheaded by GMATEK Inc. this project is commissioned by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), specifically under the program Executive Office for Unmanned and Small Combatants (PEO-USC).
Leveraging AI for Enhanced Maritime Safety
This research initiative aims to harness machine learning and advanced artificial intelligence to devise solutions that address and counteract sensor degradation in unmanned surface vessels (USVs) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).
as part of this collaboration, GMATEK will integrate FarSounder’s latest innovation, the Argos 350, into the array of sensors being deployed. the expertise and experience of the FarSounder team in sonar technology will substantially bolster GMATEK’s development efforts.
Argos 350: A Game-Changer for Navigation
The Argos 350 serves as a crucial navigation aid, enhancing situational awareness for USVs and UUVs. Given their lack of crew, these vessels face heightened collision risks due to the limitations of conventional navigation technologies. This 3D Forward-Looking Sonar (FLS) system empowers the vessel to detect underwater obstacles in real-time,ensuring timely responses to potential hazards. Its compact and lightweight design instills confidence in operational teams, enabling them to execute missions safely and effectively.
Commitment to Advancing Unmanned Maritime Technology
Cheryl M. Zimmerman,CEO of FarSounder, emphasized the importance of this project, stating,“Initiatives like this are crucial as the maritime industry ventures into the realm of unmanned vessels. Our team is honored to contribute to this research and is eager to play a role in enhancing the safety of these vessels.”
