FCC Grants Authorization for UAV Standard Radar Altimeter!

Ainstein, a developer of intelligent radar systems for small UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles), has announced that the U.S.

Ainstein, a pioneer in advanced radar technology for small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has received Equipment Authorization from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its US-D1 UAV Standard Radar Altimeter. This authorization confirms that the US-D1 operates efficiently without causing harmful interference and adheres to the FCC’s regulations.

The US-D1 is engineered to function effectively in diverse environments, including rugged mountainous areas, dense tree canopies, sandy terrains, and over bodies of water. It complies with the International Electrotechnical Commission’s IP67 rating, ensuring it remains operational even when submerged in water up to one meter for a duration of 30 minutes.

Andrew Boushie, Ainstein’s vice President of Strategy and Partnerships, stated: “The US-D1 has been meticulously designed to boost performance, enhance safety, and extend the operational lifespan of UAVs. Its compact size, robust durability, and high-performance capabilities make it an essential mmWave radar sensor for demanding UAV applications.”

Notable Features of the US-D1

The US-D1 boasts several key features that set it apart in the UAV market:

  • Exceptional accuracy in altitude readings above ground, particularly in challenging conditions such as over water, grass, and brush.
  • Consistent high performance in low-light or no-light scenarios, including rain, fog, and nighttime operations.
  • Proven effectiveness in terrain tracking, a critical requirement for precision agriculture applications.
  • Optimized for Beyond Visual line of Sight (BVLOS) UAV operations, facilitating safe autonomous takeoffs and landings.
  • Enhanced reliability in altitude measurements due to increased processing capabilities.
  • Capability to integrate multiple US-D1 altimeters without interference, allowing for sensor redundancy or multiplexing to improve detection accuracy.
