HD Air Studio has designed, manufactured, and tested a fully integrated roll-tilt UAV gimbal for drone-based inspection applications, optimized to support the Sony LR1 camera and a LiDAR unit.
The custom gimbal is compact and lightweight, specialized for aerial platforms where weight, balance, and stability are vital. Its mechanical structure provides high rigidity, allowing reliable operation in challenging flight conditions, despite the gimbal’s low weight.
The gimbal includes specially built BLDC motors with hollow shafts to meet performance and form factor requirements. Custom-designed cabling is routed internally through the motors, such as Ethernet and other signal lines, with wiring developed in-house and manufactured according to HD Air Studio’s specifications.
Every stage of the system’s development was conducted by HD Air Studio under one roof, ensuring full control over quality and performance and a seamless integration process. This included concept design, technical discussions with the client, mechanical design, prototyping, production, and validation.
Each unit is tested at HD Air Studio’s facility, following internal quality check procedures to confirm mechanical functionality and integration readiness before delivery.
The LR1-LiDAR gimbal represents the second generation of the client’s UAV gimbals, incorporating critical improvements based on the previous model’s operational feedback. Guided by real-world use, enhancements were made to the mechanical design, mounting options, and integration workflow.
