Amprius Technologies, Inc. has secured purchase agreements with AALTO HAPS for its cutting-edge 450 Wh/kg SiMaxx™ cells, engineered to thrive in extreme flight conditions while enhancing both flight range and payload capacity.

Unmatched Performance in stratospheric Operations

The SiMaxx cells stand out as the only commercially available batteries capable of sustaining prolonged High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) operations, even during overnight flights in the stratosphere across various seasons and latitudes. This capability is particularly crucial for AALTO, as the Zephyr remains the sole fixed-wing HAPS to have successfully demonstrated continuous day and night operations in the stratosphere.

Record-Breaking achievements

The collaboration between AALTO and Amprius reached a significant milestone in 2022, marked by a groundbreaking 64-day cross-continental flight of the Zephyr 8/S. This remarkable feat not only showcased the capabilities of Amprius’ 400 Wh/kg high-energy cells but also allowed AALTO to surpass its previous record of over 25 days without descending from the stratosphere.

Amprius’ SiMaxx cells are designed to perform in demanding environments, making them ideal for both aviation and military applications.The company commenced shipments for the new AALTO orders in the frist quarter of 2024 and anticipates ongoing deliveries as it effectively works to expand its SiMaxx production capacity in Fremont, California.
