Identifying the Challenge
The Environment Protection Department (EPD) in hong Kong plays a crucial role in safeguarding the environment, promoting green initiatives, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. While implementing policies in urban settings is relatively straightforward, the vast and frequently enough inaccessible farmlands and mountainous regions of the New Territories present significant challenges. The rise in waste and pollution has adversely affected air and water quality, prompting the EPD to seek efficient and practical solutions for environmental protection in these remote areas.
Implementing Innovative solutions
To address these challenges, the EPD opted for liveu’s LU800 flagship production unit alongside the compact LU300 HEVC units. These technologies facilitate the live transmission of video from DJI drones, specifically the M300RTK and Mavic 2 Enterprise models, which survey the New Territories and stream real-time footage back to the EPD headquarters. The drones are operated remotely, with video data processed through LiveU units and integrated into the department’s video management system, enhancing data relevance and accessibility. LiveU was selected for its dependable technology and the extensive support provided by its local partner, Chinam, which ensured seamless integration with drone manufacturers and cloud streaming services. This innovative approach has streamlined the EPD’s operations, allowing for effective environmental monitoring across extensive areas at a reduced cost.
