Introducing the Sensus L: A Versatile Multi-Sensor Drone Solution
ISS Aerospace,a pioneering company based in the UK,has launched the Sensus L,an advanced unmanned aerial system (UAS) designed to accommodate a variety of large industrial sensors. This innovative drone platform is engineered to deliver rapid, integrated mission data through the use of edge computing technology.
Key Features of the Sensus L
The Sensus L is equipped with a range of complex sensors, including Ground Penetrating Radar, LiDAR, Thermal, and Multispectral capabilities. Its design features a universal central payload bay, complemented by modular sensor rails at both the front and rear, allowing for easy customization.
With a maximum payload capacity of 25 kg, the Sensus L is capable of carrying substantial LiDAR sensors, such as the ASTRALiTe EDGE topo-bathymetric scanner and the Yellowscan Voyager/Explorer. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for various applications across different sectors.
Efficient Data Processing and Real-Time Decision Making
Data collection and processing occur onboard the drone, significantly minimizing the need for extensive bandwidth RF connections to ground control stations. The onboard Intel I9 workstation fuses the data, producing easily interpretable datasets that facilitate timely and informed decision-making.
The system architecture interconnects the autopilot, avionics, and Intel workstation with an Nvidia Xavier AI board, providing supercomputer-level processing capabilities during flight. This architecture naturally evolves towards autonomous operations, utilizing the extensive sensor data for real-time navigation, obstacle avoidance, and dynamic task management.
Vision for the Future
Ryan Kempley, the Founder and CEO of ISS Aerospace, expressed his enthusiasm: “Our long-standing ambition has been to create a truly universal and modular UAS solution that can deliver real-time data from multiple sensors, enhancing critical decision-making in both commercial and defense applications. The Sensus L now fulfills this vision with its multi-modal data fusion capabilities. The open architecture allows end users to access and leverage onboard processing and sensor integration.”
Upcoming Showcase at Drone X
Various configurations of the Sensus L will be showcased at the Drone X event, taking place at Excel London on September 7-8, 2023. This event will provide an opportunity for industry professionals to explore the capabilities of this groundbreaking drone platform.
