Introducing the Latest LWIR Cameras: Experience Stunning VGA Resolution!

Sierra-Olympia Technologies has released two new long-wave infrared (LWIR) camera models based around a VGA resolution 10µm pixel pitch

Sierra-Olympia Technologies has unveiled two innovative long-wave infrared (LWIR) camera models, both utilizing a VGA resolution microbolometer with a 10µm pixel pitch. These low-SWaP (size, weight, and power) cameras are designed for seamless integration into unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and robotic systems, featuring either USB or Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

The viento-10 USB and viento-10 GigE models offer users and system integrators universal compatibility and immediate functionality, thanks to thier standard interface options (USB 3.0 UVC and GigE Vision 2.0). The USB version operates like a webcam upon connection, while the GigE variant caters to those who prefer an Ethernet connection with power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities. Both models support full dynamic range and high frame rate digital video.

Currently, lens options of 7.7 mm, 15 mm, and 20 mm are available for both camera models, with additional variants in the pipeline. The sensor technology was developed in collaboration with DRS Technologies, and Sierra-Olympia serves as the exclusive North American distributor for DRS’s popular Tamarisk and the newly launched Tenum 640 LWIR camera series.

The Viento-10 series not only enhances functionality but also boasts a smaller pixel pitch, resulting in improved sensitivity and clearer images. This design allows for a narrower field of view and enables the use of lighter, more compact optics. Additionally, it operates at a frame rate of 60 Hz, which is double that of it’s predecessors.

Chris Johnston, President of Sierra-Olympia, stated: “The Viento-10 represents the latest advancement in high-performance, low SWaP long-wave infrared technology. With a pixel pitch of ten microns, it is indeed the smallest available in the LWIR market, and the inclusion of USB and GigE interfaces simplifies integration into a broader range of systems and applications.

This technology has demonstrated the highest sensitivity among uncooled microbolometers, achieving sensitivity levels below 30 mK in most scenarios. Our aim with the Viento camera line is to standardize interfaces and signals, thereby alleviating integration challenges and enhancing user experience.
