EMCORE Corporation Launches High-Performance EN-300 FOG Inertial Measurement Unit
EMCORE Corporation has officially commenced mass production of its EN-300 Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG) Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which is now readily available for purchase with a lead time of approximately 12 weeks. This innovative FOG IMU boasts a bias performance that is up to ten times superior to that of older systems, all while maintaining compatibility in form, fit, and function. It is particularly well-suited for applications in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and other unmanned systems, including navigation in GNSS-denied environments, precise targeting, and stabilization along the line of sight.
Advanced Features of the EN-300 FOG IMU
The EN-300 is a sophisticated three-axis, closed-loop system that utilizes EMCORE’s proprietary solid-state FOG transceiver, enhanced with cutting-edge integrated optics. This model can be tailored to meet specific customer needs. The Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) EN-300-3 variant achieves remarkable bias in-run stability as low as 0.04 degrees per hour, alongside an Angle Random Walk (ARW) of just 0.015 degrees per square root hour.
Robust Testing and Quality Assurance
EMCORE has successfully completed an extensive Design Verification Testing (DVT) program, demonstrating the EN-300’s reliability under challenging environmental conditions. The company has supplied numerous proof-of-technology IMUs to defense contractors and aerospace clients worldwide, all of whom are looking to enhance their existing platforms and systems. To ensure timely delivery and adherence to specifications, EMCORE is ramping up production of the EN-300 while implementing stringent manufacturing processes and quality control measures.
Market Response and Future Outlook
David Hoyh, EMCORE’s Director of Sales & Marketing for navigation products, expressed enthusiasm about the product’s market reception: “With the meaningful interest and demand we are witnessing, we are thrilled to announce the increased production and widespread availability of the EN-300. Our vertical integration allows us to offer unique capabilities that meet the market’s demand for higher performance, enhanced precision, and reduced costs, ultimately benefiting our customers.”
