Introducing the World’s First Fully Digital FOG INS: A Game Changer in Navigation Technology!

Advanced Navigation has launched its new range of fibre optic gyroscope inertial navigation systems (INS).

Introducing the Boreas D90: A Breakthrough in Inertial Navigation Technology

Advanced Navigation has unveiled its latest innovation in inertial navigation systems (INS) with the Boreas D90, powered by the cutting-edge DFOG (Digital Fibre Optic Gyroscope) technology. This new range boasts a remarkable 40% reduction in size, weight, power consumption, and cost (SWaP-C) compared to existing systems in the industry.

Precision Navigation for Modern Applications

The Boreas D90 is specifically engineered for high-precision applications, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and robotics, where accurate orientation and navigation are paramount. It achieves an notable bias stability of 0.001 degrees per hour, along with roll and pitch accuracy of 0.005 degrees and heading accuracy of 0.006 degrees. Notably, the system operates independently of GPS, offering dead reckoning accuracy of 0.01% of the distance traveled when paired with an odometer or Doppler Velocity Log (DVL).

Rapid Gyrocompassing and Enhanced Performance

One of the standout features of the Boreas D90 is its ultra-fast gyrocompassing capability, which allows it to establish a precise heading in just 2 minutes, whether stationary or in motion. This system can determine a highly accurate heading of 0.01 degrees secant latitude without depending on magnetic heading or GPS signals.

Innovative sensor Fusion for Superior Data Analysis

Equipped with Advanced Navigation’s state-of-the-art sensor fusion algorithm, the Boreas D90 leverages human-inspired artificial intelligence to extract a wealth of details from incoming data. This design focuses on control applications, ensuring robust health monitoring and instability prevention for consistent and reliable data output.

Reliability and Safety at Its core

Designed with reliability and availability in mind, the Boreas D90 undergoes rigorous testing to meet safety standards, including military-grade environmental assessments. The system boasts a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 500,000 hours, ensuring long-term operational reliability. Additional features include support for ethernet, CAN, and NMEA protocols, along with a disciplined timing server that provides Precision Time Protocol (PTP). Users can access all internal functions and data thru a user-friendly embedded web interface, with internal storage capable of logging data for up to one year.

Industry Impact and Future Applications

Xavier Orr, CEO of Advanced Navigation, stated, “The Boreas D90 is the first product to showcase our patent-pending DFOG technology. This innovation marks a significant advancement in fibre optic gyroscopes. With its remarkable accuracy and strategic-grade performance, combined with a 40% reduction in size, weight, power, and cost, we are poised to unlock new industries and applications that were previously unattainable.”
