Introducing the Tenμm 640: A Breakthrough in Infrared Imaging

Sierra-Olympia technologies, Inc. has launched an innovative uncooled long-wave infrared (LWIR) camera core, the Tenμm 640, which boasts an industry-leading 10-micron pixel pitch uncooled VOx microbolometer sensor. This model is now recognized as the smallest pixel LWIR camera available, offering remarkable detail and sensitivity wiht a resolution of 640 x 512 VGA, all within a compact and cost-efficient design.

Manufactured in the USA by Leonardo DRS, a leader in high-sensitivity microbolometer technology, this series of lens-integrated cameras (with a no-lens option) is exclusively distributed and supported in North America by Sierra-Olympia.

“the Tenμm represents a significant advancement in VGA resolution microbolometer sensors,” stated Chris Johnston, president of Sierra-Olympia. “While many uncooled LWIR technologies are limited to lower resolutions, such as 60 x 80 or 160 x 180, we recognize that there are numerous applications where higher resolution is essential. Sierra-Olympia is dedicated to maximizing sensitivity and resolution, ensuring our customers recieve the best performance from the latest technologies.”

Key Specifications of the Tenμm:

  • Sensor: 10 μm 640 x 512 uncooled VOx microbolometer sensor
  • Lens Options: 7.7 mm (49 x 40 °) / 15 mm (25 x 20 °) / 20 mm (18 x 15 °)
  • Sensitivity: <50 mK NETD / <30 mK with 3-D noise filter
  • Frame Rate: 60 Hz (with a 9 Hz option available)
  • Weight: 29 g (without lens)

As a long-standing partner and exclusive distributor for DRS Technologies in North America,Sierra-Olympia has been instrumental in bringing the Tenμm to market, evolving from the well-regarded Tamarisk series of 320 and 640 LWIR camera cores.

“In comparison to the Tamarisk series, the tenμm offers enhanced resolution, superior performance, and a more affordable price point—an increasingly rare combination in today’s market,” remarked Jeff Leake, Vice President of Sales at Sierra-Olympia. “The quality of imagery and sensitivity provided by these compact cameras is outstanding. With Sierra-Olympia’s distribution, customers benefit from a dedicated team of experts who assist with integration, operation, and ongoing support.”

To enhance usability, Sierra-Olympia is finalizing the progress of USB and Gig-E feature boards that will integrate seamlessly with the Tenμm 640, making it more versatile and user-friendly right out of the box. These camera models are expected to be available globally through Sierra-Olympia Technologies by summer 2021.
