The GMDSS Academy is committed to equipping maritime students with essential Iridium GMDSS safety training necessary for operating on Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) class vessels. Iridium GMDSS operates as a public service, providing automated communication between ships and shore, as well as between vessels. This service is governed by the International Maritime Association’s (IMO) SOLAS convention,offering vital support and life-saving assistance to mariners in distress.

In 2020, Iridium GMDSS evolved into a truly global, real-time maritime emergency service. Utilizing its robust L-band spectrum, Iridium GMDSS allows users to make emergency calls, activate an SOS via a distress alert button, and send Maritime Safety details (MSI) such as navigational warnings and hazardous debris locations through iridium SafetyCast®.

Comprehensive Training Modules

The GMDSS Academy features three distinct training packages: The Iridium Network, Iridium GMDSS, and Iridium Maritime Security Services. Each module offers detailed insights while keeping students informed about the latest technological advancements and updates to SOLAS GMDSS regulations.
