New Partnership Advances Imaging Capabilities for Unmanned Systems

Safran and Trillium partner to co-develop and deliver advanced electro-optical systems, expanding imaging capabilities for drones, light aircraft, and defense applications worldwide

New Partnership Advances Imaging Capabilities for Unmanned Systems

Safran Electronics & Defense and Trillium Engineering are set to partner on the co-development, integration, and global distribution of advanced electro-optical solutions for aerial platforms.

The collaboration brings together two industry leaders known for innovation in high-performance imaging technologies, combining Safran’s expertise in large gyrostabilized systems with Trillium’s specialization in compact, lightweight gimbals tailored for unmanned aerial systems, light aircraft, and helicopters.

This partnership allows Safran to broaden its Artis product range, introducing smaller stabilized camera turrets between 2 and 25 inches that are optimized for a wide array of mission profiles.

Trillium Engineering, based in the United States, has earned a strong reputation for delivering advanced electro-optical and infrared gimbals that provide exceptional performance in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations. Their systems incorporate high-definition EO and IR sensors, precision geolocation, and laser designation capabilities, offering a complete ISR solution for demanding operational environments.

By integrating Trillium’s technology, Safran is enhancing its ability to meet the evolving needs of global defense and security forces with solutions that are more compact, efficient, and adaptable.

Alexandre Ziegler, Head of the Defense Global Business Unit at Safran Electronics & Defense, said, “The increasing complexity and diversity of operational requirements create a need for a broader range of electro-optical solutions. Partnering with Trillium Engineering enables us to extend our offering and effectively support a wide variety of platforms in this rapidly evolving context. Together, we are addressing the changing needs of armed forces as they face the new realities and complexities of the modern battlefield.”

Mark Mirelez, Chief Executive Officer of Trillium Engineering, added, “Through our collaboration with Safran Electronics & Defense, Trillium Engineering’s compact gimbal solutions extend their global accessibility, providing users with more mission flexibility and a clear path to achieving their objectives.”

The collaboration is seen as a shared commitment to innovation, mission readiness, and operational excellence in the rapidly advancing domain of unmanned and aerial imaging systems.
