The CubeSat satellite, AMICal Sat, developed by the Grenoble University Space Center (CSUG), has successfully integrated nicomatic’s CMM Series 320 connectors into its design. This satellite is dedicated to exploring the phenomena of the Northern and Southern Lights, aiming to enhance our understanding of the impact of solar activity on Earth’s atmosphere and technological systems.
Nicomatic’s CMM Series 320 connectors are renowned for their compactness, lightweight design, and proven reliability in space environments. With a 2mm pitch, these connectors link the satellite’s camera payload to its primary electronic systems. Their selection was driven by their minimal size and weight, as well as their ability to endure the intense shock and vibration associated with space launches, along with extreme temperature variations. These connectors comply with MIL-DTL-55302F and BS-9525-F0033 standards, ensuring high performance in demanding conditions.
AMICal Sat is classified as a 2U nanosatellite, with dimensions of 227mm x 100mm x 100mm, and it orbits the Earth at an altitude of 530 kilometers, completing approximately 15 orbits daily. The satellite has commenced sending back images of polar auroras to Earth via a 2.4 GHz S-band radio link, contributing valuable data to the scientific community.
