Innovative Sourcing for Unmanned Aerial Systems
Explore advanced solutions from top global providers
Nokia has revealed plans to present its Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Traffic Management (UTM) framework, designed for the secure operation of UAVs through LTE technology, at the UAE Drones for Good Award event in Dubai. This live demonstration comes at the request of the UAE Drones for Good Award Organizing Committee, initiated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The LTE network serves as a robust platform for network operators, governmental bodies, and public safety organizations to oversee and manage drone activities.
Various sectors, such as healthcare, logistics, agriculture, and media, are increasingly recognizing the advantages of drone technology. Though, the rapid expansion of UAVs poses regulatory challenges for governments and aviation authorities. Nokia’s innovative technology facilitates centralized oversight and management of drones using either existing LTE networks or dedicated LTE systems operated by governmental or public safety agencies.
key Technical Features:
- integration of LTE network technology with a Mobile Edge Computing platform
- Drones outfitted with LTE dongles, GPS, and telemetry data access modules
- computational components for airspace monitoring, drone flight path management, and telemetry data transmission, including the establishment of dynamic no-fly zones
- A mobile submission for UAV operators featuring a UTM interface
Joachim Wuilmet, Nokia’s Head of Customer Marketing and Communications for the Middle East and Africa, stated: “LTE technology enables groundbreaking high-bandwidth services across the telecom sector and beyond. With our leading expertise in LTE, Nokia’s UTM framework can facilitate the secure operation of drones, contributing to the evolution of smart cities in the UAE and worldwide. Our innovations align with our mission to enhance human capabilities through technology in an interconnected world.”
Amer Abdulraoof, Deputy Coordinator general of the UAE Drones for Good Award, commented: “the UAE Drones for Good Award seeks to showcase the latest advancements in drone technology and its varied applications across sectors, including emergency response and logistics. We believe that Nokia’s solutions will unlock numerous opportunities within drone technology, ensuring safe and secure operations across different industries.”
