Persistent Systems’ MANET Comms Network Empowers Rheinmetall’s Autonomous UGVs for Next-Level Performance

Rheinmetall Canada’s Mission Master autonomous UGV is joining Persistent Systems’ Wave Relay® MANET Ecosystem, expanding their operational capabilities across the battlefield

Persistent Systems’ MANET Communications Network Enhances Rheinmetall Autonomous UGVs

Rheinmetall Canada Partners with Persistent systems for Enhanced UGV Capabilities

Rheinmetall Canada, a subsidiary of the renowned german Rheinmetall group, has entered into a significant long-term agreement (LTA) with Persistent Systems.

Integration of Advanced Technologies

This partnership will see Rheinmetall Canada’s Mission Master autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and the Path autonomy kit (A-Kit) integrated into Persistent’s Wave Relay® Ecosystem. This ecosystem comprises various platform providers that leverage the Wave relay® mobile ad hoc networking (MANET) for their interaction and data needs.

Expanding the Wave Relay® Ecosystem

The Wave Relay® MANET is already a standard feature in over 20,000 unmanned systems provided by top-tier platform manufacturers. Rheinmetall Canada is contributing the following advanced platforms to this ecosystem:

  • The Mission Master SP,an autonomous UGV equipped with a low-signature electric motor for discreet operations.
  • The Mission Master XT, a robust UGV designed to transport platoon-level payloads across challenging terrains and in amphibious environments.
  • The Mission Master CXT, a compact, hybrid-powered UGV built for extreme terrains, designed to support troops in various missions.
  • The PATH Autonomous Kit, a versatile robotic control software suite that can be easily integrated into existing manned vehicle fleets.

Immediate Availability and Impact

The Mission Master series of autonomous UGVs is now available with the Wave Relay® MANET capability, enhancing their operational effectiveness.

Expert Insights on the Collaboration

Jeffrey washington, Director of Business Development for Army/UGVs at Persistent, remarked, “The Wave Relay® network connects Rheinmetall’s unmanned platforms to a robust, peer-to-peer network that facilitates the seamless sharing of voice, video, sensor, GPS, and other critical data among users on the battlefield. This evolution shifts the focus from individual robots controlled by soldiers to a collaborative approach where UGVs substantially enhance the capabilities of warfighting teams.”

Alain Tremblay, Vice-President of Business Development and Innovation at Rheinmetall Canada, added, “Our Mission Master family of uncrewed vehicles is engineered to support tactical teams in extreme environments while providing real-time situational awareness. This LTA ensures that our vital mission data is accessible to the maximum number of warfighters across a connected battlefield.”
