Persistent Systems to Power U.S. Army UGV Communications!

Persistent Systems, a developer of Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) technologies, has announced that the company is part of Endeavor Robotics‘

Persistent Systems, a leader in Mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) technology, has revealed its collaboration with Endeavor Robotics as part of the victorious team awarded the US Army’s MTRS Inc II contract (Man-Transportable Robotic System Increment II).This substantial contract, valued at $100 million, includes an option for an additional $58 million, aimed at supplying a fleet of up to 1,200 mid-sized unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to the US Army. The MPU5, developed by Persistent Systems, has been selected by Endeavor as the preferred MANET radio to ensure secure and extensive data communication for command and control (C2), video feeds, and critical sensor data related to CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive) threats.

Endeavor Robotics opted for Persistent Systems to deliver onboard communication solutions due to the MPU5’s exceptional performance and essential features that are vital for the UGV’s operational success and the overall effectiveness of the US Army:

  • A robust 3×3 MIMO radio capable of exceeding 100 Mbps with a transmission power of up to 6 watts, ensuring a secure and long-range IP network in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios.
  • A flexible modular frequency architecture that enables operators to easily switch RF bands (L-, S-, and C-Band) by simply replacing radio modules as required.
  • Wave Relay MANET functionality that guarantees continuous network connectivity for the UGV within a dynamic multi-hop mobile ad hoc network, a hallmark of Persistent’s expertise.

“We take immense pride in our collaboration with Endeavor Robotics and extend our congratulations on this notable achievement,” stated Dr. Herbert Rubens, CEO of Persistent Systems. “The US Army has been a valued partner of Persistent Systems for many years, and we are grateful for the chance to potentially deliver an additional 2,400 MPU5 radios to enhance this UGV initiative, supporting the US warfighter and the Army.”

Persistent Systems and Endeavor Robotics first announced their partnership in July 2016 and have been working closely ever since. Tom Frost, President of Endeavor Robotics, remarked, “Persistent manufactures an outstanding radio and has proven to be an excellent partner for Endeavor. We eagerly anticipate our continued collaboration on this Army program.”
