Kraken Robotics Partners with Polish Navy for Advanced Minehunting Solutions
Kraken Robotics has secured a significant contract to supply cutting-edge minehunting technology to the Polish Navy. the agreement includes the provision of the KATFISH tethered unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV), which is equipped with a state-of-the-art Synthetic Aperture sonar (SAS) system capable of capturing over 3 billion pixels across a 3 km² area every hour. Alongside the towed UUVs, kraken will also deliver its Tentacle Winch and Autonomous Launch and Recovery System (ALARS), which will be integrated into the Polish Navy’s new KORMORAN II Mine Counter-Measure Vessels (MCMVs) in Gdansk, Poland.
Strategic Importance of the Contract
Karl Kenny, the President and CEO of Kraken Robotics, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are thrilled to finalize this contract for our KATFISH and ALARS systems with the Polish Navy’s new minehunting fleet. Collaborating with a robust NATO ally like Poland is a privilege. While we cannot disclose specific details due to confidentiality, we believe this contract is significant and will pave the way for further opportunities within NATO member countries. If the Polish Navy successfully markets its KORMORAN II MCMVs internationally, we anticipate additional sales prospects for KATFISH and ALARS in those markets.”
Enhancing Naval Capabilities
Captain Piotr sikora, who leads the Naval Warfare systems Branch within the Armament Division of the Polish Navy Inspectorate, emphasized the necessity of modernizing capabilities to effectively address the challenges posed by naval mines in shallow and very shallow waters. He noted, “The growth of new capabilities and the acquisition of advanced equipment are essential to counter the naval mine threat. Our extensive trials with the ORP KORMORAN have confirmed that Kraken’s KATFISH meets all our operational requirements.the unique features of this system will significantly enhance our efficiency and bolster our naval strength for the 21st century. We are confident that with such an advanced synthetic Aperture Sonar onboard, our new MCM vessels will play a vital role in enhancing both national and international maritime security as we confront the naval mine challenges of our time.”
