Innovative Partnership for Urban Drone Management
ResilienX, a provider of In-Time Aviation Safety Management System (IASMS) solutions, has teamed up with AeroX to enhance the air Traffic Low-Altitude Surveillance (ATLAS) system, aimed at improving urban Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM).
Transforming Drone Operations in North Carolina
This collaboration is set to establish a pioneering framework that prioritizes the safety, efficiency, and dependability of drone operations across North Carolina.
Project ATLAS: A New Era in Surveillance
Launched in 2022, AeroX’s Project ATLAS focuses on creating a Ground-Based Surveillance System (GBSS) in the Winston-Salem area. This initiative is designed to provide essential low-altitude surveillance for non-cooperative aircraft, assisting UAS operators in obtaining Beyond Visual Line Of Sight (BVLOS) operational approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Building on Established Foundations
AeroX plans to build upon the groundwork laid by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the FAA, and various standards organizations such as ASTM and RTCA. The ultimate goal is to facilitate repeatable, scalable, and economically lasting BVLOS operations, particularly in areas like package delivery, infrastructure inspection, and public safety.
Expert Insights from AeroX Leadership
Basil Yap, President of AeroX, emphasized the project’s significance: “Project ATLAS was conceived to enable the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector to conduct BVLOS missions over extended distances, bridging urban and rural areas. The expertise of the ResilienX team in military and commercial ground-based surveillance and UTM systems will be invaluable as we utilize thier model-based systems engineering approach. We are excited about the advancements our partnership will bring, continuing our legacy of being ‘first in flight’.”
ResilienX’s Role in the Collaboration
The partnership will capitalize on ResilienX’s proficiency in developing fault-tolerant systems and it’s IASMS solution, FRAIHMWORK.
Vision for Economic Growth
Andrew Carter, CTO of ResilienX, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “We are excited to partner with AeroX, an organization that shares our passion for innovation. We believe this groundbreaking capability, starting in Winston-salem, will serve as a catalyst for economic development in the region and propel the entire UAS industry forward.”
Future Expansion Plans
The focus will be on designing and implementing a low-altitude GBSS and weather sensing system in downtown Winston-Salem, with plans to begin serving clients shortly. AeroX also aims to extend its drones-as-first-responders service to nearby locations, with aspirations to expand into other metropolitan areas, including Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte.
