Boxfish AUV
The Boxfish AUV is rated for operations down to 300 meters, with pressure-tested housing and field-proven components ensuring reliable performance in deepwater environments. It is powered by 600 Wh lithium-ion batteries that provide up to 10 hours of continuous underwater operation.
Compact and manageable, the vehicle measures 73 cm in length, 44 cm in width, and 35 cm in height, with a total weight of 25 kg. The system includes synchronized stereo machine vision cameras and a 4K IP camera for imaging, supported by a powerful 20,000-lumen lighting system for operation in low-visibility conditions. Integrated onboard systems include USBL, DVL, and WiFi for communication, navigation, and telemetry.
Framework & Software
The research kit provides a suitable development environment with support for ROS2, allowing researchers to integrate their own code and custom algorithms directly into the platform.
This capability streamlines experimentation in underwater autonomy and computer vision. Included software tools such as Boxfish SafePath Planner and Boxfish Commander provide mission planning and operational control, enabling users to configure routes, monitor performance, and manage missions in real time.
Navigation, Positioning & Imaging
The vehicle is equipped with onboard Ultra Short Baseline (USBL) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) systems that deliver accurate positioning and movement tracking during underwater missions.
The integrated imaging system includes two synchronized machine vision cameras, allowing for stereo vision capabilities. A standard 4K IP camera is also included, with the option to upgrade to a broadcast-quality 4K UHD camera that supports high-resolution 20MP stills. Lighting is provided by a high-output 17,000-lumen high-CRI system.
