Impulse has enhanced the software for it’s SL200,a software Defined Radio (SDR) modem designed for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). This advanced modem facilitates two-way data and high-definition video transmission, even in challenging environments.
The latest software upgrade ensures that the radio link remains stable, even in adverse conditions,by employing a dynamic data rate that adjusts according to the transmission surroundings. When conditions are optimal, the data rate operates at its peak, but as challenges arise, the transmission rate gradually decreases to bolster the link’s reliability.
Through Simpulse’s innovative data prioritization technique, which safeguards the integrity of selected high-priority data, the data rate can be adjusted to:
- 600 kbps for commands, telemetry, and low-resolution live video feeds
- 170 kbps for essential data, including commands/control and GPS coordinates
In scenarios with line-of-sight (LOS), reducing the data rate from 5 Mbps to 170 kbps can quadruple the effective range. Similarly, both range and reliability can see significant enhancements in non-line-of-sight conditions.
