Introducing the Black Swift E2: A New Era in Drone Technology
Black Swift Technologies (BST), a pioneer in the advancement of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) tailored for both scientific adn commercial uses, has unveiled the Black Swift E2 UAS. This cutting-edge quadcopter is engineered specifically for automated inspections in industrial and structural settings.
Innovative Design for Enhanced Portability
The Black Swift E2 boasts a collapsible design, enabling it to be conveniently stored in a custom carrying case, ensuring both ease of transport and protection during travel. Its front-mounted, easily interchangeable payload bay allows operators to maintain a complete field of view, even when the drone is in a vertical position. The E2 is compatible with a variety of sensors, including RGB and multispectral cameras, laser positioning systems, LiDAR, trace gas sensors, and radiometers. Additionally, the drone features a user-kind battery pack that can be swiftly replaced.
Advanced Flight Management System
Equipped with BST’s SwiftCore flight management system (FMS), the E2 incorporates a refined autopilot and an intuitive interface designed to facilitate mission automation in challenging environments with minimal training required. SwiftCore utilizes cutting-edge machine learning techniques for predictive maintenance and is currently undergoing trials in advanced machine vision research, enabling routine flights beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS).
Streamlined flight Planning and Data Collection
with BST’s proprietary Flight Planning User Interface, operators can set up the Black Swift E2 in just minutes, calculating the area to be inspected and initiating data collection for immediate analysis. Flight planning, mission oversight, and mapping can all be executed from a handheld Android tablet equipped with BST’s SwiftTab software. Gesture-based controls empower users to deploy the UAS confidently with minimal training, while effectively gathering data in various environments. For enhanced accuracy and tracking, RTK GPS corrections are also available.
Real-World Applications and Testimonials
Oier Peñagaricano, CEO of Alerion, a company specializing in automated industrial inspections, remarked: “The Black Swift E2 is our preferred UAS platform for wind turbine inspections. It delivers exceptional performance, even under severe weather conditions such as heavy rain and strong winds. Our patented laser navigation technology can be integrated with the Black Swift E2, allowing for precise navigation near structures like viaducts, aircraft, and both onshore and offshore wind turbines. With just a single button press, the Black Swift E2 can autonomously conduct a wind turbine inspection and identify damage in real-time within a mere 15 minutes.”
Jack Elston, PhD., CEO of Black Swift Technologies, added: “Our collaboration with Alerion has led to the creation of the most sophisticated autonomous inspection drone available today. The synergy between BST’s avionics and flight management system and Alerion’s computer vision navigation and edge computing capabilities results in an unmatched unmanned inspection solution in the industry.”
