amprius Technologies, a frontrunner in advanced lithium-ion battery solutions with its Silicon Anode Platform, is at the forefront of battery innovation with its latest ultra-high-power, high-energy lithium-ion battery.

Transformative Energy Density and Discharge Rates

Utilizing the company’s cutting-edge material technology, this new battery cell achieves an impressive discharge rate of 10C, while offering an energy density of 400 Wh/kg. This represents a significant leap forward for the electric aviation sector, which includes both manned and unmanned aerial vehicles—a market anticipated to exceed $49 billion USD by 2025.

Enhanced Performance for eVTOL and UAV Applications

The remarkable power output of this cell provides unparalleled advantages for electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to Amprius,this technology delivers extraordinary propulsion power and energy,effectively meeting the demanding requirements during takeoff,cruising,and landing phases.

Extended Range and Payload Capacity

With the potential to enhance flight range by up to 50% and increase payload capabilities, this innovative cell also has implications for high-performance electric vehicles (EVs). It could enable acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) in under 1.5 seconds, setting new benchmarks in the EV market, which is projected to reach $67 billion by 2025.

CEO Insights on Electric Mobility

“The commercial landscape for electric mobility is substantially influenced by power and energy demands,” stated Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius. “Our latest cell showcases remarkable specific power and energy density, approximately 200% greater than conventional graphite cells, while maintaining a 10C discharge rate. This dramatically broadens submission possibilities and enhances cost-effectiveness.”

Power Density and Usability

Featuring a power density of 3500 W/kg under standard discharge conditions, and exceeding 4400 W/kg at lower discharge levels, this cell maximizes usable discharge capabilities.It can support high current pulses even at low charge levels without dropping below the critical cut-off voltage, maintaining 3000 W/kg at 30% discharge depth. The synergy of high energy and power density minimizes battery weight and size, resulting in longer ranges, reduced charging intervals, and lower operational costs.

Ultra-Fast Charging Capabilities

Moreover, this ultra-high-power cell is equipped with ultra-fast charging (UFC) technology, allowing it to reach 80% charge in approximately six minutes or less. This capability is set to revolutionize mission-critical operations by enabling rapid turnaround times.

Future Prospects and Commercialization

Amprius is committed to delivering batteries that are essential for the advancement of electric mobility. The company anticipates having samples of this innovative cell available for clients by the end of 2023, with full commercialization expected in early 2024.
