Revolutionary Gimbaled Camera Unveiled for Next-Gen Tactical UAS Program

The gimbal features a 0.9 FOV MWIR camera, a STANAG-compliant laser target designator and an SWIR laser designator

Trillium Engineering UAS camera payloadTrillium Engineering has introduced the HD95-MVS-LD, a cutting-edge gimbaled camera specifically designed for the U.S. Army’s Future Tactical UAS Mission (FTUAS) initiative. This innovative gimbal was showcased at the AUSA 2022 event, located at Textron Systems’ exhibit, mounted on the Aerosonde unmanned aerial vehicle.

Exceptional Features of the HD95-MVS-LD

The HD95-MVS-LD boasts a top-tier 0.9 FOV MWIR camera, delivering superior pixel density for enhanced resolution over extended distances, ensuring reliable and actionable imagery. Additionally, it is indeed equipped with a STANAG-compliant laser target designator and a SWIR Laser Designator featuring SeeSpot capability. Weighing in at an impressively low weight and measuring just 10 inches, this gimbal allows UAS platforms to extend their operational endurance without compromising optical quality.

Versatility Beyond Military Applications

Although the HD95 was primarily engineered to fulfill the U.S. Army’s Future Vertical Lift specifications, its optimized size, weight, and power (SWaP) profile, along with advanced day and night ISR imaging capabilities and an integrated video processor, make it suitable for a variety of mid-sized tactical UAS, whether vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) or fixed-wing.

Industry Insights and Future Implications

Alex Podolak, Trillium Engineering’s vice president of program management, stated, “The high-performance, lightweight design of the HD95 significantly enhances the capabilities of current tactical UAVs, ultimately contributing to saving lives in combat situations.”

Mark Mirelez, the CEO of Trillium Engineering, emphasized, “With the launch of the HD95, we now possess a extensive range of products tailored to meet the diverse requirements of global reconnaissance operations. From the outset, our commitment to agility and innovation has been paramount. The HD95 exemplifies our swift growth capabilities and our responsiveness to the changing demands of military programs.”
