Innovative Demonstration of the CAMCOPTER S-100 UAS with Areté’s PILLS System

Schiebel has effectively showcased the capabilities of its CAMCOPTER S-100 Unmanned Air system (UAS) in a collaborative demonstration alongside Areté Associates’ Push-broom Imaging Lidar for Littoral Surveillance (PILLS) technology. This event was supported by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR).

Versatile Capabilities of the CAMCOPTER S-100

The CAMCOPTER S-100 is a versatile vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial system that operates without the need for a designated launch or recovery site. In its standard configuration, this advanced unmanned helicopter can carry a payload of up to 34 kg (75 lbs) for durations reaching 10 hours. It is designed to function effectively both day and night, even in challenging weather conditions, and boasts beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) capabilities extending up to 200 km (108 nautical miles) over both land and maritime environments.

Statements from Leadership

“We are thrilled to have successfully demonstrated the remarkable capabilities and data collection features of our CAMCOPTER S-100 to the U.S.Navy,” stated Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group. “Our operations span globally across land and sea, and we are confident that our unmanned solutions align perfectly with the needs of the U.S. Navy.”

Integration of the PILLS System

The PILLS system, with its compact size, weight, and power-efficient sensor, facilitates hydrographic mapping of coastal areas and can be seamlessly integrated with the S-100. This technology opens up numerous military and commercial applications, enhancing the operational capabilities of the unmanned system.
