Introducing the Boxfish Alpha: A New Era in Underwater Inspections
Boxfish Research has unveiled the Boxfish Alpha, an advanced inspection-class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) tailored for routine inspections, search and rescue operations, and recovery tasks.
Enhanced Features for Superior Performance
This innovative ROV integrates a data overlay into both live and recorded footage, enabling commercial divers to effortlessly capture high-quality 4K video along with critical log information, including GPS coordinates and depth measurements.
Portability and Ease of Use
Designed with portability in mind, the Boxfish Alpha is user-amiable and can be deployed quickly underwater, allowing for efficient asset condition assessments with minimal setup time.
Robust Design for Challenging Environments
Despite its compact and lightweight structure, the Boxfish Alpha boasts a robust and well-balanced design, equipped with eight vectored thrusters that provide the necessary power and agility to navigate strong currents and challenging underwater conditions.
Precision Control and Versatility
Similar to other ROVs from Boxfish Research, the Alpha features complete auto stabilization and precision control, offering six degrees of freedom for movement. This allows the vehicle to maneuver and orient itself in any direction with ease.
Cost-Effective Solutions for Commercial Divers
The Boxfish Alpha is specifically engineered to help commercial divers optimize underwater inspection processes while minimizing costs, all while maintaining functional versatility.
Advanced Imaging and Lighting Capabilities
This ROV is ideal for asset inspection, observation, and light intervention tasks. It includes a high-resolution front camera for videography and a rear navigation camera, with a battery life ranging from 3 to 12 hours depending on operational conditions. The front camera features a 6x true 4K zoom, allowing for non-intrusive inspections of underwater assets from a distance. Additionally, operators can quickly capture detailed 20MP RAW and JPG still images using the photo Mode.
Illumination and Accessory Options
The lighting system consists of two 5,000-lumen lights mounted on adjustable arms, providing optimal visibility for asset monitoring and photogrammetry at depths of up to 300 meters. Users can also attach up to three accessories and sensors as needed, including grabbers, sonars, and ultrashort baseline positioning systems. The durable 2.7mm fiber-optic tether can be upgraded from the standard 100 meters to an remarkable 5,000 meters.
Supporting Diverse inspection Needs
The Boxfish Alpha is a versatile and reliable tool designed to assist commercial divers globally with inspections of various assets, such as water tanks, mines, jetties, bridges, and pipelines.
“With the introduction of this new drone, we have tailored our innovative ROV for underwater asset inspections,” stated Craig Anderson, Co-Founder of Boxfish Research. “The Alpha offers commercial divers an efficient and cost-effective solution for conducting underwater inspections and delivering extensive reports to clients.”
