advanced Sonar Solutions for Maritime Intruder Detection
Wavefront Systems Ltd. has secured a contract with MARSS to supply its cutting-edge Sentinel IDS (Intruder Detection Sonar) for integration into the NiDAR surveillance system, specifically designed for a fleet of Corvette-class vessels operating in Southeast Asia.
Thorough Surveillance Integration
This agreement entails the installation of the NiDAR system along with various sensors on multiple vessels. The nidar platform will seamlessly integrate both modern and legacy sensors, including Wavefront’s Sentinel IDS sonar, navigational radars, and infrared cameras, into a unified user interface.
This innovative interface will enable swift and precise detection and classification of both underwater and surface threats, whether the vessels are in transit, anchored, or docked.
Enhanced Protection Across All domains
As part of the NiDAR Command & Control (C2) system or as an autonomous solution, the Sentinel IDS safeguards assets and personnel across diverse environments, including naval ships, private yachts, critical national infrastructure, and both civilian and military ports.
First Deployment on Combat Vessels
This contract marks the inaugural deployment of the NiDAR system on combat-ready vessels. The project is set to commence this year and is projected to continue until 2029, with the first vessel expected to be delivered in 2026.
Automatic Threat Detection Capabilities
The Sentinel IDS is engineered to autonomously detect, classify, and monitor underwater threats encroaching on protected areas or assets, such as divers, swimmer delivery vehicles, or underwater drones.
The latest iteration, Sentinel 2, introduces advanced Simultaneous In-band Active and passive Sonar capabilities (SInAPS®), allowing for the identification of threats at distances of up to 1500 meters for mini-subs and 1000 meters for diver detection.
Simplified Integration and Deployment
Designed for effortless integration into C2 systems through industry-standard APIs, the Sentinel IDS can automatically alert operators to potential threats without requiring sonar-trained personnel. For this project, the sonar heads will be deployed using a through-hull mechanism, facilitating quick deployment and retrieval.
Industry leaders collaborate for Enhanced Security
Ioseba Tena, Managing Director of Forcys Ltd.—Wavefront’s sister company and the primary channel for future defense initiatives—stated,“This collaboration exemplifies the strength of partnership. by merging MARSS C2 with Wavefront’s Sentinel, navies globally can safeguard critical assets from underwater threats.”
Frederik Giepmans, Managing Director of MARSS Maritime, remarked, “By advancing our NiDAR technology to the forefront of naval defense, we are not only broadening our market presence but also playing a vital role in the security of those who serve and the nations thay protect. It’s a responsibility we take very seriously, which is why we collaborate exclusively with leading sensor partners like Wavefront, ensuring our customers have reliable systems.”
