VideoRay to Supply Advanced ROVs for U.S. Navy operations

VideoRay LLC, a leader in defense technology, is preparing to deliver its MK20 Defender Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to support the U.S. Navy’s Maritime Expeditionary standoff Response (MESR) initiative.

Innovative Design and Functionality

The MK20 Defender ROV, derived from videoray’s Mission Specialist Defender model, is a durable, portable, and expeditionary ROV designed for versatility. Its modular architecture facilitates seamless integration of various third-party subsea sensors and software applications, allowing for adaptable payload configurations tailored to the Navy’s evolving requirements in mine countermeasure operations.

Advanced Technology Integration

This ROV is equipped with cutting-edge technology developed in collaboration with industry partners, including:

  • EOD Workspace control software and autonomy platform from Greensea IQ
  • Multibeam sonar and USBL positioning technology by BluePrint Subsea
  • Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) navigation system from nortek
  • A dual-function manipulator developed by Eddyfi

These components considerably enhance the ROV’s capabilities while adhering to the stringent size, weight, and power (SWAP) criteria set by the Navy.

Contract Details and Future prospects

The five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, valued at $92.6 million, grants the Navy access to VideoRay’s Mission Specialist series of underwater robotic systems. This contract supports both the Navy’s Explosive ordnance Disposal Underwater Response Vehicle program and the MESR program of record.

Managed by the Naval Details Warfare Command, Pacific, this contract ensures the delivery and maintenance of next-generation ROVs that will play a crucial role in executing vital underwater missions for military personnel.

Manufacturing and Global Reach

Manufactured in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and serviced from both Pottstown and san Diego, California, the Mission Specialist Defender has established itself as a key product in VideoRay’s lineup, gaining traction among a growing number of defense and commercial users both domestically and internationally.

Leadership Insights

Chris Gibson, CEO of VideoRay, expressed his enthusiasm: “This production contract with the U.S. Navy signifies an exciting milestone for VideoRay, reflecting our team’s commitment and hard work to reach this achievement.

“We appreciate the chance to work alongside the Navy and value the feedback that has been essential in refining our next-generation Expeditionary EOD and MCM systems to fulfill the fleet’s needs. We are eager to continue our collaboration with the U.S. Navy and our partners to enhance our technology and capabilities for defense and commercial clients globally.”
