Micro-Magic Inc. has unveiled its newest innovation—the AC-6 series high-precision quartz flexure accelerometers, specifically designed for rigorous industrial environments.
This advanced series is tailored for industries such as oil and gas extraction, geophysical surveys, and other challenging settings that test the limits of standard sensor technologies.
Central to the AC-6’s design is a compact quartz pendulum mechanism, enhanced by cutting-edge packaging methods and a unique circuit architecture. These accelerometers excel in drone applications, ensuring remarkable stability even in extreme temperature fluctuations and high-vibration conditions.
A standout feature is the user-selectable sampling resistors, which facilitate finely calibrated high-accuracy outputs. Moreover, optional integrated temperature sensors can be added to compensate for local thermal variations, substantially improving measurement accuracy by mitigating environmental impacts.
Conventional accelerometers frequently experience reduced operational lifespan and performance issues in high-temperature scenarios. Micro-Magic counters this challenge with a gold wire bonding technique that connects the terminal post directly to a gold-plated film on the quartz pendulum, enhancing thermal resilience and connection reliability under prolonged heat exposure.
The servo electronics are constructed using a multi-chip module thick-film hybrid integrated circuit process, featuring an aluminum oxide ceramic substrate and gold metal conductors. This configuration not only boosts thermal stability but also reduces long-term drift and measurement errors.
In product evaluations, the AC-6 units were subjected to a high-temperature habitat typical of petroleum logging. Each unit underwent a stringent aging test at 180°C for over 96 hours, ensuring that the accelerometers retained their accuracy and reliability during extended operations in extreme heat.
Notable Features of the AC-6 Series
- High Precision: Capable of both static and dynamic measurements, featuring a bias stability of ≤150μg (1σ over one month) and a resolution as low as 30μg.
- Extensive Measurement Range: accommodates ±30g acceleration with a bandwidth of 800–2500Hz, making it perfect for high-frequency vibration assessments and dynamic testing.
- Durable Mechanical Design: Endures up to 25G vibration (20–2000Hz) and 1000g shock (0.5ms half-sine), ensuring reliability under extreme mechanical conditions.
The AC-6 Series, with its blend of exceptional accuracy, thermal durability, vibration resistance, and customizable output, represents a significant advancement in precision accelerometry for harsh environments. Whether conducting static measurements deep within a high-temperature borehole or tracking dynamic movements in challenging industrial settings, the AC-6 provides reliable data when it is most critical.
