Innovative Parachute system for DJI M210 Drones
Drone Rescue Systems has introduced an advanced parachute rescue mechanism tailored for the DJI M210 series drones. This innovative solution builds upon the success of their existing parachute system designed for the DJI M600, which remains the sole accessory in that category to achieve ASTM certification.
Versatile Applications of the DJI M210 V2
The DJI M210 V2 is a sophisticated multirotor drone utilized across various sectors, including inspections and search-and-rescue missions. Its adaptable design allows for the integration of specialized sensors and cameras, which can be quite costly. The newly developed DRS-M210 system by Drone rescue Systems aims to safeguard these valuable payloads in case of a flight failure.
Lightweight and efficient Design
This parachute system is engineered to ensure that the drone’s operational range and flight duration are only slightly impacted while maximizing safety for both the drone and its cargo, as well as for peopel on the ground. Weighing in at around 430 grams, the system employs lightweight parachute materials and compact electronics. Its non-pyrotechnic release mechanism not only minimizes weight but also simplifies transport, as it is exempt from stringent safety and hazardous materials regulations. The parachute is deployed using an elastic mechanism that propels it from a carbon tube.
Enhanced Stability and Safety Features
The parachute system features a rapid release mechanism and a cross-canopy design that enhances stability against wind and pendulum effects. This allows malfunctioning drones to achieve a controlled descent even from lower altitudes, substantially reducing the impact force. The installation process for the DRS parachute system is straightforward, utilizing a bayonet-lock “Mount & Fly” feature that ensures a secure connection between the drone and the parachute, even during turbulent flights or strong vibrations.
Expert insights on Drone Safety
Andreas Ploier, the CEO and co-founder of Drone Rescue Systems gmbh, stated, “With this latest offering, we are enhancing the safety of commercial drone operations, especially for police and fire services, as the DJI M210 V2 is frequently employed in these fields.”
“Given the significant investments in these drones, it is crucial to prioritize the protection of both the drone and its payload in the event of an accident.”
Regulatory Benefits and Cost Efficiency
The integration of the parachute system facilitates the process of obtaining flight permits and approvals in line with the new EASA Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA) guidelines, as all flight data is recorded and stored electronically. In case of an incident, this details can be analyzed and shared for further inquiry.
“This capability may lead to reduced insurance premiums, depending on the insurer.Consequently, the initial investment in our parachute rescue system could quickly be offset by these savings,” Ploier added.
