Aegis Power Systems, Inc. has unveiled its latest SWaP-optimized VME650-series power supplies, designed to enhance the capabilities of VME bus request developers in military and industrial sectors, including unmanned systems. These new power supply units (PSUs) are engineered for high-density performance, tailored for devices utilizing the standard 6U form factor.
With a focus on improved thermal management, the VME650 and VME650A models deliver substantial advancements compared to their predecessors. Senior engineer Matt Van Steen explains, “The push for enhanced SWaP (size, weight, and power) across various industries motivated us to develop more sophisticated VME power cards for our clientele. We are thrilled with the cost-effective outcomes we achieved while boosting the maximum power output to 650W.”
Both the VME650 and VME650A are modular power supply solutions featuring four outputs that collectively provide 650 watts. They come equipped with keyed connectors, allowing for flexible configurations when integrating multiple power supplies within a single VME bus chassis. The primary distinctions between the two models lie in their cooling methods, slot sizes, and overall weight. The VME650 is designed as a single-slot unit with conduction cooling via wedgelocks, whereas the VME650A is a two-slot unit that utilizes air cooling.
These new power supplies serve as direct replacements for the older VME550 and VME550A power cards, enabling customers to seamlessly upgrade their systems with the latest technology.
