Aviant, a pioneer in medical transport drones, has successfully utilized Vertical Technologies’ DeltaQuad Pro UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) to transport blood samples between two hospitals in Norway, covering a distance of over 120 kilometers. This achievement marks the longest drone flight recorded in the nation.
This operation adhered to the new European drone regulations that came into effect on January 1, 2021, representing a significant advancement for the drone sector. Securing permissions for long-distance BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) flights is often a challenging process, making this flight a noteworthy accomplishment.
Aviant’s mission is to transform the logistics of healthcare by automating the delivery of essential supplies and samples between medical facilities. This innovation aims to enhance the safety, reliability, and efficiency of medical care. The company aspires that this successful blood sample transport will motivate othre organizations across Europe to explore similar drone-based solutions, ultimately leading to widespread adoption of this technology in daily healthcare operations.
The DeltaQuad pro is a state-of-the-art, fully electric vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fixed-wing UAV, designed for ease of use. It can be operated autonomously and is capable of taking off and landing in confined spaces across diverse environments.
Bernhard Paus Graesdal, co-founder of Aviant, stated, “Thanks to the DeltaQuad Pro, we were able to initiate advanced operational testing right from the start. With a durable vehicle and a dedicated technology team, Vertical Technologies provides one of the most user-pleasant VTOL solutions available, all at a competitive price.”
