Skyfront has joined forces with IMSAR to incorporate a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging system into the Perimeter 8, a long-endurance hybrid multirotor unmanned aerial system (UAS). The NSP-3 SAR/MTI radar from IMSAR is a versatile, low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) radar solution designed to enhance Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities across both land and maritime environments.
Successful flight tests were carried out along the California coastline, demonstrating the system’s straightforward assembly in field conditions. The perimeter 8, an octocopter drone powered by a hybrid system, when paired with the SAR technology, offers a user-friendly ISR platform capable of carrying various payloads and achieving flight durations of up to two hours.
Larry Moore, Vice President at IMSAR, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “we are thrilled to partner with Skyfront to provide tactical operators with ISR capabilities that were previously limited to strategic and theatre-level assets. This integration allows for high-resolution SAR imaging, Change Detection, and Moving Target Indicator functionalities from a platform that can be easily deployed from the back of a mid-sized SUV or a small boat.”
