Revolutionizing Autonomous Research Vessels with Cutting-Edge Radar Software

Cambridge Pixel is set to provide its SPx Tracking Server application and SPx Fusion Server as part of a radar system upgrade for the Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS)

Innovative Radar Software to Boost Autonomous Research Vessel

Cambridge Pixel is poised to enhance the Mayflower autonomous Ship (MAS) with it’s state-of-the-art radar processing software, designed to optimize the vessel’s navigational capabilities.

This upgrade, executed by the unmanned vessel specialists at Submergence Group, will substantially improve the MAS’s navigation through a series of system enhancements, including the latest iteration of Guardian Autonomy from Marine AI.

The radar system will feature Cambridge Pixel’s SPx Tracking Server for complex target tracking, alongside the SPx Fusion Server, which integrates data from various onboard sensors.

These advancements will empower the MAS to identify targets of varying sizes, ensuring safe navigation by delivering precise information to guardian Autonomy, the AI-driven collision avoidance system developed by Marine AI.

Cambridge Pixel’s innovative technology plays a crucial role in bolstering the situational awareness and safety of the autonomous vessel, enabling it to navigate the open seas with accuracy and dependability.

The software provided by Cambridge pixel enhances Marine AI’s control and processing capabilities across multiple radar systems, facilitating the integration of essential safety data for unmanned surface vessel (USV) operations.

Through collaborations with top radar manufacturers like Simrad, Cambridge pixel’s software can effectively process and convert proprietary data formats.

Overview of the Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS)

The MAS initiative aims to create a vessel capable of autonomously crossing the Atlantic ocean without human intervention, while also contributing to scientific research and educational efforts.

in addition to its autonomous features, the MAS is outfitted with a variety of sensors and scientific instruments designed to gather data on oceanographic and environmental factors, aiding research into climate change, ocean health, and marine biodiversity.

The vessel employs cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence and advanced sensor systems like radar, to navigate and make real-time decisions.

Cambridge Pixel emphasizes that, with the expert integration provided by Submergence Group, the upgrades will keep the Mayflower at the forefront of marine autonomy, facilitating critical research and progress at sea.

Brett Phaneuf, President of submergence Group, remarked, “Choosing the right partners for advanced and reliable software is essential for us to successfully upgrade vessels. Cambridge Pixel is our preferred provider for radar processing solutions, offering the technical expertise necessary to tackle any project challenges.”

David Johnson, Managing Director of Cambridge Pixel, added, “We are thrilled to support the Mayflower autonomous Ship in this prestigious and scientifically significant project. Our global experience with USV initiatives allows us to deliver expert assistance for our adaptable radar and sensor processing solutions.”
