Revolutionizing Mangrove Restoration with Innovative 3D Printed Drone Design

Explore how Inverto Earth, in collaboration with HP Additive, is using sustainable 3D printing and drone technology to drive large-scale mangrove restoration and protect vulnerable coastal ecosystems

Innovative Drone Design for Mangrove restoration

Revolutionizing Mangrove Restoration with Advanced Drone Technology

Inverto Earth AG, a pioneering Swiss startup, is leveraging drone technology alongside HP’s Multi jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing to enhance mangrove restoration initiatives.

transforming Conservation Efforts

Inverto Earth is dedicated to the preservation of mangrove ecosystems, employing high-resolution data collection methods to assess climate impacts, biodiversity, and social implications. By merging cutting-edge drone technology with satellite imagery, the company aims to amplify nature-based restoration efforts and optimize environmental benefits.

innovative Drone Design for Efficient Seed Planting

Central to their strategy is the deployment of drones equipped with components produced through HP’s MJF 3D printing technology. These drones are specifically designed for the efficient dispersal of mangrove seeds over extensive areas, significantly enhancing productivity compared to conventional manual planting methods, which are more suited for smaller plots. The MJF process allows for the swift creation of robust parts with intricate designs, providing more creative flexibility than standard CNC machining.

Advanced Seed Dispersal Mechanism

A notable aspect of inverto Earth’s drones is their complex seed dispersal system, which is engineered to handle over 60 different mangrove species across various regions, including the Middle East, Pakistan, and Indonesia. The durability of components produced via HP MJF ensures that these drones can operate effectively in challenging environments, such as muddy terrains, where FDM-printed parts may fail.

Sustainable Materials and Global Initiatives

Inverto Earth utilizes HP 3D HR PA 11, a sustainable material derived from castor oil, underscoring their commitment to environmental sustainability. In collaboration with HP, the institution has initiated a five-year project in Central Java, Indonesia, aimed at restoring 18,000 square meters of mangrove forest. This initiative, in partnership with local entity Mojo Village, will safeguard over 20 plant species and provide habitats for more than 50 animal species, directly addressing the urgent issue of coastal ecosystem degradation.
