New ROS Driver for OEM7 GNSS Receivers by Hexagon | NovAtel

Hexagon | NovAtel has unveiled a specialized driver designed to enhance Robot Operating system (ROS) compatibility for its OEM7 series of GNSS receivers. This innovative driver streamlines the integration process for systems developers and application engineers, facilitating the incorporation of these receivers into autonomous robotics initiatives, including UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) and UGVs (unmanned ground vehicles).

Easy Access and Installation

The driver is readily available for download from NovAtel’s GitHub repository and can also be installed directly as a ROS Binary Package, making it convenient for users to get started.

Advanced Features of OEM7 GNSS Receivers

NovAtel’s OEM7 GNSS receivers are compact, multi-frequency devices that boast elegant interference mitigation capabilities and offer positioning accuracy ranging from sub-meter to centimeter levels.

Empowering Developers with Enhanced Data Access

With the introduction of this new ROS driver, developers can swiftly access essential data from the OEM7 platform, which is crucial for creating autonomy algorithms applicable in various fields, including academic research, robotic public transport systems, and drone technology. The driver allows for seamless integration of data from multiple sensors without the need to modify community-developed drivers. It has been rigorously tested on the Hexagon | AutonomouStuff platform, ensuring that the data output is a true reflection of what the receiver provides, while also enabling users to capture raw data for subsequent analysis.

Industry Insights from hexagon

Miguel Amor,Chief Marketing Officer of Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, expressed enthusiasm about the launch: “We are thrilled to present our inaugural purpose-built driver for ROS to the GitHub community. This initiative stems from a collaborative effort between NovAtel and AutonomouStuff, supporting Hexagon’s Smart Autonomous Mobility portfolio, which was introduced at CES 2020 in Las Vegas. This portfolio represents a holistic solutions platform that integrates all necessary sensors, software, and services to facilitate autonomous driving.”
