Doodle Labs, a leader in long-range, industrial-grade wireless networking solutions, has reaffirmed it’s collaboration with ModalAI, a pioneer in autonomous drone and robotic technologies. This renewed partnership aims to enhance the direct integration of Doodle Labs’ nano-OEM and mini-OEM Mesh Rider Radios with ModalAI’s VOXL 2 and the newly introduced VOXL 2 Mini autopilots.
Both companies will present their latest innovations at the AUVSI Xponential event in denver from May 9-11, with Doodle Labs at Booth 4416 and ModalAI at Booth 4534. They will also participate in a panel discussion titled “How Collaboration Sparks Innovation in DIU’s Blue UAS Program,” alongside leaders from the Defense Innovation Unit and other key players in the Blue UAS ecosystem. This session is scheduled for Wednesday, May 9 at 3 p.m. MST.
The synergy between Doodle Labs and ModalAI’s core drone technologies enables drone manufacturers to effortlessly create advanced drone systems equipped with a robust and dependable data link. both Doodle Labs’ Helix version of the Mesh Rider Radios and ModalAI’s VOXL 2 are integral to the Blue UAS Framework, which has received full clearance for use by the U.S. government.
ModalAI will highlight its new VOXL 2 Mini, a lightweight 11g single-board AI autopilot, at both its own and Doodle Labs’ booths during the exhibition.
“This integration has revolutionized the market for many drone manufacturers, allowing them to launch their most advanced drones more swiftly than ever,” stated Ashish Parikh, VP of Business growth at doodle Labs. “ModalAI is dedicated to creating autopilots for smaller, smarter, and safer drones. Our radios enhance the performance of the autopilot and other elegant components by providing high throughput and a reliable data link. We are excited to further our partnership at xponential and beyond.”

“As a manufacturer within the Blue UAS Framework, our goal is to propel the U.S.drone industry forward with cutting-edge, interoperable technology that expedites the journey to autonomy,” remarked Chad Sweet, CEO and Co-Founder of ModalAI. “We are thrilled to partner with Doodle Labs to integrate their Mesh Rider Radios with VOXL 2. Developers utilizing VOXL 2 alongside Doodle Labs’ Mesh Rider Radios can achieve a faster time to market while ensuring compliance with FY20 NDAA Section 848.”
Doodle Labs Helix Mesh Rider Radio
The Doodle Labs Helix mesh Rider Radio was developed with support from the Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit specifically for the Blue UAS initiative. It is recognized as the only radio that fulfills all requirements of the Blue UAS Framework in a single device.
This innovative radio offers tactical capabilities across six frequency bands within one unit. It comes in various multi-band configurations for federal frequencies, including M1-M6 and L + S. With the Helix, users can switch frequency bands based on interference, operational country,or other factors without needing to change hardware. Helix Smart radios are fully compliant with NDAA regulations.
Helix Mesh Rider Radios are available in two drone-compatible form factors: mini-OEM and the even more compact nano-OEM, both designed for low size, weight, and power (SWaP) while enabling long-range communication and high throughput. In addition to the blue UAS-compliant Helix versions, both Smart Radios are also offered in unlicensed multiband 900MHz + 2.4 GHz configurations for commercial drone applications.
ModalAI VOXL 2
ModalAI’s VOXL 2 serves as its flagship autopilot, powered by the Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G platform. weighing just 16 grams, VOXL 2 offers unparalleled AI computing capabilities compared to other autopilots. It integrates a PX4 real-time flight controller with an 8-core CPU capable of 15 TOPs, seven image sensors, TDK IMUs, a barometer, and 5G connectivity, all assembled in the USA. The VOXL 2 and the new VOXL 2 Mini are designed to accelerate the development of commercial drone and robotic solutions, harnessing the advantages of autonomous AI and 5G technology.
VOXL 2 facilitates autonomy and communication for both indoor and outdoor drones and robots, utilizing vision-based SLAM and AI for movement, specifically tailored for GPS-denied environments with obstacle avoidance capabilities. When paired with a Doodle Labs Helix Mesh Rider Radio, VOXL 2 considerably enhances mission-critical navigation, including BVLOS operations, ensuring safer and more reliable flights.
